Whitewater Kayaking

Savage Wilderness Safaris are now able to offer tuition in the fields of placid and whitewater kayaking; the only company in East Africa to use highly qualified British Canoe Union (BCU) coaches. Based from our riverside camp near Sagana we are able to use different sections of the Tana River to suit our course requirements. Fed up with rain, cold rivers and lack of water? Kayaking for beginners - never been kayaking before? You don't know what you're missing! A flat water course with the option to undertake up to the BCU 2* award

.: Kayaking for improvers - come and polish those skills on flat water whilst working towards the BCU 3* award syllabus.

.: Introduction to moving water - Looking to progress to whitewater? Come and learn on up to grade III water. Previous experience is necessary.

.: Moving water improvers - looking to progress to the next level? Learn the skills required to become self-sufficient on grade III water with an introduction to grade IV and basic whitewater rescue training

.: Advanced whitewater - designed to fine-tune those river running or play-boating skills on grade IV - V whitewater. Previous experience essential, subject to assessment by our coaches.

.: BCU Star awards - 1 to 4 star training and assessment available as separate courses. Ideal for schools and indeed groups of every nature. More information and costs are available on request.

Expeditions on offer include…

.: Central Kenya - an ideal package that suits paddlers of all levels. Based out of our Sagana camp, join our guides on a number of rivers ranging from simple low-volume grade III runs, to highly technical medium-volume grade V creaking. Length of trips, number and type of rivers; and also the number of days spent on any one river can be tailored to your own needs.

.: Western Kenya - designed to suit the more advanced paddler, these trips are centred around the tea plantations of Kericho. A number or rivers are available from low-volume fun classics, to harder high volume steep and technical runs.

.: Tana/Athi River multi-day trips - Guided single and multi-day kayak trips available on the harder upper reaches of our main rafting rivers.

.: First descents expeditions - either all kayak, or raft-supported trips are available throughout Kenya and various other East African countries and are featured on Playak.com.
