What can I expect on the mountain?

Is there drinking water available?
Fresh drinking water is available all the way up the mountain from the various streams that flow. We do however advise you to bring some water purification tablets to be safe.

What is the best time of year to climb the Mt. Kenya?
Mt. Kenya has two good climbing seasons December to mid March and June to mid October.

 

What equipment shall I bring?
We shall send you a comprehensive kit list when you sign up for one of our trips, or click here for Mountain kit list

Do you have any equipment for Hire?
We can provide you with down sleeping bags and extra sleeping bag liners for 30 Euros.

What are the best routes to climb on the mountain?
We advise climbers to use either the Sirimon or Chogoria routes due to their outstanding beauty, however we can tailor make your itinerary to your satisfaction.

How fit do I have to be?
Only a medium of fitness is required to fully enjoy the trip.

Are there any age limits to eligible?
We do a lot of work with school groups on the mountain and take children from as young as 11 years old. However, it all depends on the parents if they are willing to let them go. The youngest person to have reached Pt. Lenana has been 5 years of age.

Who organizes the transportation to and from the Mountain?
We take care of all transportation to and from the mountain.

How long does the trip take?
Depending on your schedule and fitness, we can tailor make your trip. We recommend a minimum of 5 days for summit and back.

Will I be staying in a hut or camping in a tent?
You will camping for the majority of the trip, however, if a hut is available, you have the option of using it.

Are there any maps and guides available?
We provide all out clients with a map and guide to Mt. Kenya written by Mark Savage. This provides you with all the information you need, from safety on the mountain to all the fauna and flora. It also gives you many useful hints and tips to make your trip more enjoyable.

Mt. Kenya vs. Mt. Kilimanjaro?
Mt. Kenya is by far a more beautiful trip. The flora and fauna is far more abundant and the views on offer are outstanding. However, being 1000m lower, your not at the “top” of Africa.

How much do the Porters carry?
15kg of your personal luggage.

What do I carry?
A day bag with what you will require for the day. This includes your waterproof clothing, hat, gloves and some other warm clothing. Your guide will advise what to put into your day bag which should be at least 30L.
